How to Get HDTV Equipment With Time Warner Cable

If you are interested in getting HD Equipment in your home. You may be wondering what equipment you need to get started. It’s all actually quite simple. To get High Definition from Time Warner cable you need 2 things!

HDTV SET

HDTV Cable Box

You’ll need an HDTV capable TV Set because HD programs cannot be displayed on a standard TV. Many HD monitors are available in stores such as Nebraska Furniture Mart, Wal Mart, K Mart, etc. You can choose from the flashy super thin top of the line Plasma Screens to the large front or rear projection TV’s, or more smaller affordable sets that still deliver the top of the line HD Quality picture and sound.

Most HD Picture sets come in a wide screen picture size. The wide screen display AKA Widescreen 16:9. The Widescreen 16:9 is the same wide proportion as a movie screen, this gives HD programs a TRUE cinematic feel!

Because all programs is not yet offered in HD, HDTV Sets can also show regular programs in the nearly square standard format as known as Standard 4:3. This means you can switch back & forth from wide screen & standard display on the SAME SET!

The Second thing you will need is an HDTV cable Box. Time Warner will upgrade your current digital cable box to HD quickly and easily. Just call the customer service to set up installation. With HD from Time Warner you will never have to buy expensive, bulky, rooftop equipment like you do with satellite. With Time Warner the HD Tuner is Already built in!!! Once the cable guy hooks you up you are ready to experience the great quality of HD that the World is going crazy about!

HDTV also offers amazing Dolby Digital Sound! The ULTIMATE IN SOUND AND QUALITY! This means you can enhance your HD experience even more if you have an surround sound system that includes A/V receiver with Dolby Digital Recorder, separate speakers and a Sub Woofer. However, this equipment is optional. You don’t need it to watch programs in HD. Now you can hear and enjoy the best quality in picture and sound!

I hope You found this article very informative. Now you can reap the benefits of having a wonderful Holiday Cheer with your new HIGH DEFINITION TV! CONGRAtS!

Sony 40G PS3 – Playstation 3 Review

First thing first, before you are going to buy a 40G PS3, one thing you should know: If you play your old PS2 games, you may need to buy a 60G model PS3 or 80G model PS3.

Remember, this 40G PS3 have not backwards compatibility! You can not play your PS2 games in this 40G PS3. (I did not do my home work before I bought this 40G PS3, so my PS2 games are still in the dusty now)

OK, now, back to the topic,

I bought this 40G PS3, because I want to watch Blu-ray movies in my Sony 40 inch LCD (1080i) HDTV. And I knew that the PS3 has a built-in Blu-ray player (I believe that a lot of people buy this PS3 because of the built-in Blu-ray player). One day, when my brother told me that he bought a 40G Play Station 3 from Circuit city with price $399 (it was on sale), and he told me how ‘cool’ his play station 3 is, so, I just bought this 40G play station 3 ( the package include a ‘Spider-man 3′ Blu-ray Disc ).

This 40G play station 3 has HDMI compatible, which means that I can use this 40G play station 3 to watch all High-Definition movies in my Sony 40 inch LCD (1080i) HDTV and my new Gateway 24 inch LCD HD monitor. (Another two famous game system, Wii does not have High-Definition player, and xbox360 needs to pay extra $170 to get a HD-DVD player). However, this 40G model PS3 did not include HDMI, so I had to spend $6 to buy one HDMI cable from amazon.com.

This 40G PS3 has the build in wireless ability to connect to the internet and access is free. I can use Windows Media as a media server to share files thought the wireless from my PC to this 40G PS3 (there are a lot of movies in the YouTube to show you how to share your PC files with your PS3 ).

This 40G PS3 includes one wireless controller (It is very nice; personally, I really hate to have a mass wires everywhere). If you want to play a 2 player game with your friend at same time, you need to buy another wireless controller (around $49 in the Circuit city).

This 40G PS3 does not include a remote controller (just like a TV remote, see the above picture), so I had to buy a remote with $28 from amazon.com. I used this 40G PS3 to watch Blu-ray movies, and my baby’s pictures through my Sony 40 inch LCD HDTV. The High-Definition makes the graphics are really amazing!!! I highly recommend people to buy a HDMI cable for your PS3. Using the HDMI cable can really tell you the different between a normal and High-Definition quality. Now, I use the remote to operate this 40G PS3 just like to remote a TV. My 40G PS3 is a multimedia center…

When I play Motor Storm PS3 game (I bought a used one $25 from amazon.com). It is so cool, the game looks so real.

One problem you may need concern, this 40G play station 3 is running little bit hot after 40 minutes, and little bit slowly to load game (over my original expect).

Over all, this 40G PS3 is fantastic, and I am really enjoying this 40G PS3. It worth my every penny!

This 40G PS3 is running hot (no other problem yet) after 30 minutes, I think that I need to buy a cooler for this baby.

Sony vs. Olympus: Digital Voice Recorders

Digital voice recorders have become increasingly popular over the last few years, as they offer a relatively cheap and reliable alternative to older cassette voice recorders. Digital voice recorders use memory – much like the memory used in your personal pc – to record sound, rather than tape cassettes. Newer recorders tend to have very large memory capacities, despite their small size.

Though there are several brands of digital voice recorders to choose from, two stand out as the most popular at this time: Sony and Olympus. Here we attempt to compare two recording devices, one from each company. Hopefully this information will be helpful in deciding which recorder is more suitable for your needs.

Olympus DM-20 Digital Voice Recorder

The DM-20 is a popular new model by Olympus. It has received high marks in the past for it’s large memory capacity (128MB Built-in flash) that provides about 45 hours of voice recording time. In addition, the device is capable of holding 120 minutes of high quality mp3 music. The recorder can hook up to both a mac or pc, so there isn’t much of a compatibility issue in uploading/ downloading songs or voice recordings. Physically, the device is really quite sharp (picture below), and is relatively light – 3 oz. This is good news for anyone who travels; it can be easily placed in a pocket or hand bag. The device also has some nice features that make it even more attractive, such as reminder alarms (work much like your alarm clock), different play and play-back modes, files may be saved in WMA or DSS format, and an external microphone. The main draw back to the device is the lack of an on/ off switch – something that should certainly be there. You are forced to hold down the hold button for some time before the device will shut down. Other than this, however, the device is well worth your attention. It currently sells for $180 – $270 dollars, so shop around.

Olympus DM-20 Digital Voice Recorder

Sony‘s answer to the DM-20 is the ICD-MS515 memory stick digital voice recorder. This device uses removable Memory Stick Media that is very similar to the smart flash cards used in digital cameras and other devices. The ICD-MS515 comes with a relatively small 8mb memory stick that holds about 170 minutes of recording. This is much smaller than the capacity of the DM-20, but it is possible to simply upgrade to larger memory sticks. Some of the nice features of this device are the built-in microphone, the ability to work with Voice To Print Software (allows the conversion of voice recording to text), usb connectivity, and a voice e-mail system (allowing you to send audible voice mail). The device is also very light, weighing slightly less than 3 oz. It’s proportions are very similar to that of the Olympus DM-20. Besides the low memory capacity (which can be upgraded at an additional cost), this a very solid and competitive device. It currently sells for around $200.

How Do I Put Music On My PSP?

Sony Playstation Portable or PSP has become very versatile in terms of its applications and functional approach. The initial thought of having a portable game console have paved the road of multi-tasking and multi-function console, it sure has out grown its creativity from creator. The PSP console is more than just a game consoles, it has the capability as a portable video & movie player, web browser, personal organizer, music player and more.

I’m going to share with you how do I put music on my PSP and making it my universal digital walkman. It is a very simple procedure to put any of your favorite music into PSP. Before we begin discussing how to download or transfer music on to the PSP, we must understand that PSP do not accept all forms or formats of music file. Depending on the version of firmware your PSP is loaded. Early version of PSP firmware can only playback mp3 music format and it does not support playback of WMA and WMV audio files, making it less appreciable. However much later, firmware of PSP is able to playback WMA and WMV audio files. To do that on any early version, the PSP firmware needs to be upgraded to playback WMA and WMV audio files directly from PSP. And even if your PSP are able to playback WMA and WMV audio files I would not recommend because of its file size compare to mp3 format.

Generally mp3 music or audio file format takes up far less storage space compare to any audio or music file format. To convert any audio file format is relatively a simple task as lots of mp3 file format converter programs are already available from the internet. You can find huge list of mp3 format converter from the search engine and most of them are capable of converting any music or audio file format to mp3. The procedure provided by most mp3 file format converter program are most dummy proofed. Hardly anyone will find any difficulties in using these programs.

Once you have converted you favorite music files to mp3 then you are ready to put music on PSP. To put music on PSP you first need to connect your PSP to your PC by using the USB cable. Next, you press “Home” button and follow by scroll to “Setting” using the left-right buttons. And finally you search for “USB Connection” and press the “X” button to enter your selection.

On your PC, it will begin to show a removable drive has been detected and mounted on “My Computer” window. Click and open the new removable drive and a folder named “PSP” will appear within the drive. Open the “PSP” folder and you should find “Music” folder from within it. If the “Music” folder does not exist, manually create it yourself.

Now you can begin to put your favorite music on PSP console. Simply drag and drop if you like or copy & paste your favorite music and store in this folder of the memory stick. Once you are finished with transferring or putting your music file onto PSP, press the “O” button on your Sony PSP console to exit your PSP from the USB connection. Unplug your Sony PSP from the USB connection and you can begin playback your mp3 music files and simply enjoy your music anywhere and anytime you want.

Gaming on the Go – The Nintendo DS Vs The Sony PSP

It is sleek, it is thin, and it took the US by storm in 2004. At issue, of course, is the dual screen, portable original style Nintendo DS. Followed in 2006 with the next generation of even thinner and sleeker looking technology, the Nintendo DS Lite, consumers eagerly gobbled up the lite version, but did not forsake the original one either.

In stark contrast to the Game Boy mimicry of the Nintendo DS stands Sony‘s PlayStation Portable, the PSP. It hit the American market in 2005, and even as the Nintendo DS had a head start and already established brand name recognition, PSP garnered a small market share. It failed to really take off until Sony releases the PSP Slim and Lite in 2007, which sent its sales through the roof worldwide – albeit for a limited period of time.

This of course begs the question any discerning consumer must ask: which system is better? Right on the heels of this line of questioning must be the inquiry over which system is most likely to be more appropriate for the 10 and under age group. After all, handheld gaming devices are now the after school activity of choice for youngsters facing lengthy commutes, or prolonged grocery shopping trips with mom.

Nintendo DS vs. Sony PSP: Just the Specs

Nintendo DS operates on a 67 MHz platform that accepts GBA cartridges and DS game cards. Game Boy owners rejoice! The system features four MB in storage and connects to Wi-Fi, and WLAN. The DS Lite is cosmetically enhanced and offers a few more bells and whistles, such as an extension of the battery life and a larger stylus, but the bottom line technology is pretty much the same.

The DS features two screens with a 256 x 192 pixel resolution, which is formidable for a handheld device. A rechargeable battery enables game play on the go, and fully charged batteries support about 10 hours of play, although this number is affected by the sound volume, the use of one or both screen, and even wireless activities.

Sony PSP operates on MIPS technology and plays Sony specific universal media discs, making this a premier mode of on the go entertainment system. Storage requires the use of memory sticks. Users may connect their PSP to Wi-Fi, USB, and also IrDA, which gave some false hopes as to the future of the gadget.

Somewhat of a dud when compared to the DS, the PSP Slim and Lite has added significant upgrades, namely a doubled internal memory, which makes it a real player in the handheld gaming market. On the other hand, the 480 x 272 pixel resolution is nothing to scoff at. The most commonly expressed complaint is the somewhat limited battery life that – fully charged – extends only to about five hours of game play or video replay, and about 10 hours of strictly audio replay.

Nintendo DS vs. Sony PSP: Game Libraries and Associated Options

DS offers the user choices. There is of course the ability to play DS and Game Boy Advance games; yet there is also the option to use PictoChat and even utilize DS Download Play.

Secondary functions of the DS are an alarm clock and an input mode that remembers some personal preferences with respect to choice and name.

PSP plays UMD discs and therefore doubles as a mini movie theater. In addition to playing games or watching movies, the user may choose to display a photo slide show, listen to music, and of course download upgrades. Initially the slow internal memory frustrated gamers who had to wait for games to load or for the system to switch between tasks, but since this has been corrected it is no longer a valid problem.

Games for the PSP are a mix of Sony‘s who’s who, and a compilation of lesser known characters: there are “2 Xtreme,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” “World Series Poker,” “NHL,” “NBA,” “FIFA,” “Crash Bandicoot,” and of course “Grand Theft Auto.”

DS offers backward compatibility with Game Boy Advance, thereby entering the market with a sizeable game library already intact. Currently boasting about 600 titles, gamers may find some similarities with PSP but also a lot of oldies but goodies. There are “FIFA,” “Barnyard Blast,” “Call of Duty,” a soon to be released “Crash Bandicoot,” and of course the ever popular “Mario.”

Nintendo DS vs. Sony PSP: Consumer Appeal

Even as the demographics are not etched in stone, it is quite apparent that both handheld game consoles are targeting different audiences that overlap only slightly. In a step that has baffled industry insiders, the rumors surrounding the futures of both devices outline an embrace of the divide, rather than an attempt to bridge the gap and woo away members of the other demographic.

Starting out at $149.99 and later dropping to $129.99, the Nintendo DS is reasonably priced, and consumers who – worldwide — bought more than 80 million of these portable game consoles agreed. The vast numbers of games, the backward compatibility with Game Boy, and of course the availability of kiddie and teen favorites, such as “Mario” and “Crash Bandicoot,” make this a favorite for parents.

This unit has a prolonged useful life in that it may grow with the interests of an elementary school kid and continue on being used when she is in her teens, or until the next unit model comes out. There are several games that are waiting for release, and the homebrew underground has gone wild in creating cards that allow for the playing of movies and other software.

The Sony PSP originally made a rather impressive splash but, once the novelty wore off, sales were sluggish when compared to the DS. Retailing at $169.99, it is pricier than the Nintendo system, and market watchers estimate that worldwide about 26 million units have been sold thus far. Sony is banking on promises that would add GPS capabilities to its units as upping the sales, but the critics are still unsure.

Since many of the PSP games are aimed at the teen and adult market, this is not the kind of gadget parents would buy for the younger set. In addition, the added online connectivity makes this the premier system for the independent young adult who is not under too much parental supervision.

Parents have come to see the DS as the next logical step of the Game Boy system, while teens are viewing the PSP as the natural extension of the PS3. This puts both systems before slightly different demographics, and it is apparent that for the parent driven market share, the DS is the system of choice, while the teen market is willing to do the extra chores and spend the birthday money to afford the PSP.

Nintendo DS vs. Sony PSP: What Does the Future Hold?

It is unlikely that the PSP is going to transcend its target audience and it is evident that Sony is not even trying to broaden the handheld console’s appeal. Instead, it is seeking to cement consumer loyalty by introducing a PSP 3000, differentiated from the PSP and Portable Slim and Lite by the moniker PSP Brite.

Sony concentrated on the quality of its LCD screen and is timing the release of the PSP Brite to coincide with the pre holiday sales rush in October of 2008. The cost is $169.99 for the bare bones model, which will not be released until after the bundle version for $199.99 makes its debut.

True to form, the bundle is paired with the movie “National Treasure 2,” platform game “Ratchet & Clank,” which earned a debatable ESRB E10+ rating, a single player puzzle game download coupon, and a memory stick. The alternate bundle substitutes the “Everyday Shooter” game which is considered a somewhat more difficult shoot ‘em up game.

Nintendo is unlikely to improve upon its DS Lite in the very near future, and accordingly original style DS owners breathe a sigh of relief that there is no immediate upgrade to the console in sight. In its place there is a good chance that yet another special version will be released. Consumers may remember that the latest such release took place in June of 2008 when the “Guitar Hero: On Tour” special edition DS hit store shelves at a cost of $179.99.

Although there is no immediately verifiable buzz on the gaming forums, there are some rumors that another special edition may coincide with the planned PSP Brite release, but thus far the rumors are unsubstantiated.

Do Games Consoles Make Good Gifts?

Let’s face it, not a year goes by without one of the big 3 companies launching a new computer games console.

The decision that many of us face, is which one to buy….. Don’t get me wrong, the fanatics buy them all as they come along, queuing up at all hours for a glimpse of the very latest in technical wizardry.

For the more down to earth of us, money isn’t finite, so we’re looking for value for money and longevity of the support that goes along with a purchase of a gaming console. I remember buying an original Sony Playstation, at a time when the games were no longer being supported, or for that matter, developed any more….

One of the latest offerings, which I truly believe to be well supported, is the Nintendo Wii.

The television adverts are still pushing the product, the peripherals are excellent, and unlike the more mainstream offerings, this is a truly family affair. Even fitness is supported with the new Wii Board.

In my opinion, and having even worked in the games industry, the Nintendo Wii makes the ideal gift for that special family member. I have no doubt that there’ll be laughs-a-plenty, and you won’t always be worrying about how future proof it is. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for Sony‘s or Microsofts offerings.

No doubt, the latest release is just around the corner, please choose carefully. Don’t waste your money on what can easily be described as “a dead duck”. My advice is to get the Wii.
